Aromatawai Audio Quality Issue For TAUIRA
Issue Summary
Throughout 2024, intermittent issues with the recording quality of the Audio Recorder activity have been reported. These issues include:
-
“Chipmunk” Playback: Audio playback speeds up after 30 seconds.
-
Distorted or Crackly Recording: Static noise appears partway through the recording.
Despite multiple efforts, the root cause remains undetermined, and the issue cannot be resolved. As a result, a workaround is necessary to ensure tauira can complete their submissions reliably and Kaiako can understand the recorded aromatawai once submitted.
Known Reasons/Reported Observations:
-
Browsers: Initially believed to be a Chromium-related issue (Chrome/Edge), but similar reports have occurred on other browsers.
-
Devices and Locations:
- Some users experience the issue on specific devices or locations, while others do not.
- The same device may work in one location but not another.
-
Network Conditions: The issue could relate to network conditions either locally or at the server level, though this is unconfirmed.
Troubleshooting Attempts:
- Tested multiple devices, operating systems, and browsers.
- Simulated conditions with: Memory limitations & Network throttling.
- Inspected network traffic for anomalies during recordings.
Workaround Solution 1:
Given that the issue cannot be fixed, tauira are advised to use the following alternative method:
1. Instructions for Tauira.
- Try again using a different browser or time of the day – We've had several reports it has worked for same tauira when they tried later that day or the next.
Workaround Solution 2:
2. Record outside of iAkoranga and Share OneDrive Link:
- Use an external audio recording tool on your device (e.g., Voice Recorder app on Windows, QuickTime Player on Mac, or any mobile built-in recording app).
- Ensure your recording is saved in a compatible format (e.g., MP3, WAV).
- Log in to your Tauira OneDrive account using [xxxxxxxx@akonga.twoa.ac.nz and
DOB password].
- Upload the audio file to a designated folder.
- Right-click on the uploaded file and select Share.
- Set the sharing option to allow your kaiako access (e.g., “Anyone with the link can view”).
- Copy the shareable link.
- Compose an email to your kaiako.
- Paste the shareable link to your audio file from your OneDrive in the email body.
- Include any additional information required for the submission (e.g., assignment name and reference).
